Pasquale Occhiuto (Founder)

Occhiuto Enterprises trading as (Caracalla Design & Renovation) was established by Pasquale Occhiuto in 1958. Pasquale was born in Italy in 1933 and under the masters in Europe and South America, learnt and refined the art of a mason and tiler. In 1962 he immigrated to Australia where he settled. As a young man he primarily dealt in the supply and installation of wall and floor tiles however due to his extensive knowledge in all aspects of building and masonry, it wasn’t long before his humble wall and floor tiling business expanded into all areas of construction.

Throughout his time in Australia Pasquale was responsible for teaching many people the refined skills required in working with mosaics, natural stones, marble and granites. One of those people is his son Phillip, who now runs and manages Caracalla Design & Renovation.

By 1990, Phillip had joined the family business. Whilst Pasquale and Phillip loved the construction business, they decided their passions lay in providing a specialist bathroom and kitchen renovation service. Although Pasquale retired from work in 2002 at the age of 68 he continually maintained an interest in the company and was often seen on the job giving a helping hand or just giving some advice, right up to the time he passed away in 2021.

Phillip continues the family legacy and although he now has a team of people working with him in design and construction, he still enjoys getting his hands on the tools from time to time.

Phillip Occhiuto (Managing Director)

Phillip grew up in the design and renovation industry. As a young boy in the early seventies, coming home from school meant going straight to the bathroom and tile showroom that his parents Pasquale and Rosa ran. As part of the business, Rosa would liaise with clients and assist with tile and bathroom product selections while a young Phillip would avidly watch the process. A perfect learning experience for his future endeavours.

After completing his schooling in the mid-eighties, Phillip worked alongside his father for many years learning and refining his trade as a wall and floor tiler and a builder renovator. While enjoying the hands-on approach of the design and construction industry, Phillip also had strong interests in other aspects of the business and studied design and business management at university.

Phillip's exposure to all aspects of the design and construction industry has inspired and shaped him into the professional person he is today. Ultimately his passion lies in design and the execution of the design in construction. He constantly explores new products and materials to work with and incorporates these into his projects. His prior experience in trade and construction gives him the confidence to consistently push the boundaries of what can be achieved in design to enable a thoughtfully resolved solution for his client’s project briefs.

Phillip does not consider this just a skill, to him it’s more of a mindset that permeates throughout the company and becomes the essence of what Caracalla design and renovation is today. To offer refined design and unparalleled Australian craftsmanship which enhances the beauty of the homes we serve.
